Information Technology (IT) Staff Auditor OR IT Senior Auditor
The Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) has employment opportunities for an Information Technology (IT) Staff Auditor OR Information Technology (IT) Senior Auditor. The IT Auditor will contribute to the overall audit program by developing a working knowledge of various government operations and related information systems while utilizing field experience, technical knowledge, and interaction with others to assess the specific risks of each audit from technical, financial, and operational viewpoints.
This vacancy is posted at multiple levels and up to three (3) positions will be filled from this posting. The Legislative Auditor will determine the final position level and starting salary (within the salary ranges listed below) based on the successful applicants’ qualifications. The salary range for an IT Staff Auditor is $32.96 to $54.36 per hour, the equivalent of $68,820 to $113,504 per year. The salary range for an IT Senior Auditor is $37.98 to $64.81 per hour, the equivalent of $79,302 to $135,323 per year.
Key Duties
Responsibilities may include the following:
- Aid in the completion of various technology, operational, and compliance audits.
- Execute testing related to IT general and application controls.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret information to assess and conclude on each assigned audit area.
- Prepare clear and concise documentation to adequately support all audit area conclusions and findings.
- Communicate audit results to multiple management levels.
- Draft audit findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Maintain technical competence in current auditing practices, compliance policies, and government regulations.

IT Staff Auditor Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, a candidate must:

- Have a bachelor’s degree (or anticipated degree within three months) in computer science/information technology, accounting, or a closely related field.
- Have basic knowledge of IT audits, networks and distributed systems, database design, and project management.
- Have a demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex and technical issues, both verbally and written.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
IT Senior Auditor Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, a candidate must:
- Submit a cover letter.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in computer science/information technology, accounting, or a closely related field.
- Have at least two (2) years of relevant experience in information technology, IT audit, and/or compliance.
- Have a general knowledge of IT audits, networks and distributed systems, database design, and project management.
- Have a demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex and technical issues, both verbally and through written reports.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master’s degree and/or a double major in computer science/information technology, accounting, or a closely related field.
- An industry recognized information technology, audit, and/or accounting certification.
- A general understanding of the information security domains.
- A general understanding of framework, such as COSO, COBIT, or NIST.
- A general understanding of information technology management and governance.
- Prior internship or experience working within governmental environments, an audit organization, or a technical field.
- Advanced analytic and/or technical skills and abilities.
Additional Requirements
- We will review cover letters and resumes to identify applicants meeting minimum and preferred qualifications. Selected applicants will go through an interview process and will be required to submit education transcripts and employment references. At the time of the interview, we may ask applicants to respond to a writing prompt.
- We will conduct background checks prior to any employment offer. Violations relevant to being an auditor at OLA may disqualify an applicant.
- Due to the nonpartisan nature of our office, applicants with extensive prior partisan work experience may be disqualified.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without needing sponsorship for an employment visa (e.g., H1B status).
- This position will have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The selected applicant must live in Minnesota and may be expected to work in the office on occasion.
