The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is looking for an Investigative Staff Auditor II to investigate allegations of fraud, waste, or abuse of taxpayer funds. As part of our team, you will get to:
- speak with complainants to understand the allegations
- conduct on-site fieldwork, including information gathering and interviews, to determine if allegations are true
- analyze relevant documents such as financial statements, bank statements, meeting minutes, general ledgers, credit card statements, and other documents related to the allegations
- document the results of your review and any potential findings
The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) performs an array of work, including financial statement audits, performance audits, information technology audits, and investigative audits. We examine all facets of state and local government, including education, health, transportation, computer systems, regulatory processes, and public safety. We conduct special studies as requested by the Legislature and audit federal grant programs to ensure North Carolina can continue to receive federal money. Our work not only impacts the entities which we audit, but also the lives of North Carolina citizens.
The Investigative Audit Division is responsible for investigating allegations of fraud, waste, or abuse of public funds across North Carolina in state government, local government, public institutions, and state-funded nonprofit organizations. |

Requirements |
Do you have what it takes?
- a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting and 2 years of experience in auditing/accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- an eagerness to learn and the ability to transfer knowledge from one task to the next
- the ability to work on multiple projects at a time
- the ability to review and interpret laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and technical and professional standards
- strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to conduct interviews
