OVERVIEW

GAO plans to issue an exposure draft of proposed revisions to Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book) in early 2017. The proposed revision represents a modernized version of the standards that considers developments in the accounting and auditing professions. The changes are intended to reinforce the principles of transparency and accountability and provide the framework for high-quality government audits. The revision is expected to include changes in the areas of auditor competence, continuing professional education, internal control, quality control and external peer review.

As the exposure draft will not be released before the webinar, GAO plans to discuss what they expect to be the most significant changes. As part of this, GAO will spend a part of the webinar discussing frequently asked questions from its technical inquiry network. GAO will discuss how it plans to address these common questions in the exposure draft.
