According to a 2024 survey from the Pew Research Center, only 22% of Americans say they trust the federal government to do what is right “just about always” or “most of the time.” Thankfully, per Gallup polling, the numbers for state and local governments are much higher, but declining trust in public institutions overall means it is more vital than ever for public servants to act above reproach as they perform the important work of protecting and serving their communities.
Susan Willeke has spent most of her career helping to protect the citizens of Ohio by educating public officials, along with state and local government employees, on their responsibility to conduct the state’s business in an ethical manner. In this session, Susan will cover a variety of concepts common across state governments using a mix of case studies along with practical and technical guidance. With significant turnover across governments at all levels, this is an excellent opportunity to learn or to refresh on ethical considerations for government employees.
