NASC: Comptrollers’ Shared Practices Forum
The Committee on Shared Practice (CSP) has established a practical and easy-to-use forum for sharing good practices, projects, policies and other aspects of operations in a state comptroller’s office. The CSP’s intent is not to solicit any single “best practice” from one state in order to “beat out” a best practice from any other state. Rather, the intent is to encourage all states to share any practices, projects and the like which are innovative or helpful, make comptroller’s offices operate more efficiently, provide better service to clients, or simply make life easier for comptroller’s offices or clients.
The CSP invites you to share such practices, policies or projects with your peers by submitting yours for publication in the Comptrollers’ Shared Practices Forum on NASACT’s Web site. The objective is to collect a wide variety of useful ideas and practices in all aspects of the comptroller’s function.
From time to time the CSP identifies a particular topic for submissions. The topic for the rest of 2008 is TRANSPARENCY. Descriptions of all good practices, policies, written materials, etc. are welcome.
The CSP welcomes submissions at any time in all areas of a comptroller’s responsibility, from accounting and financial reporting and managing financial systems to the myriad of administrative responsibilities and various programs that operate out of the comptroller’s office.
In order to ensure that all submissions have the approval of the state comptroller, the CSP asks that each submission be sent to Kim O’Ryan (koryan@nasact.org) by the state comptroller. The CSP suggests the following format for submitting practices, policies, projects, etc.:
- A brief (two or three paragraphs) description of your practice, etc., which will be published in the NASACT News.
- A longer description of your practice, etc. (probably no more than two pages, but that might vary depending on the complexity of the subject) with more detail about the subject. You may include:
- The purpose of the practice, policy, project or other aspect of operations.
- What you did to institute the practice, etc.
- What the result was of instituting the practice, etc.
- What further changes you might make for greater improvements, efficiencies, etc.
This description, along with contact information (name and e-mail address) will be posted in the Comptrollers’ Shared Practices Forum in the Members Only section of NASACT’s Web site.
Both of these documents will be reviewed by NASC staff and if necessary, minor edits may be made.
