The William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award Recently Presented to Robert H. Attmore, Deputy Comptroller for the State of New York

On Friday, June 8, 2001, Robert H. Attmore was presented with the coveted William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award. The award was given to recognize Mr. Attmore's outstanding leadership and notable contributions to the profession of state government auditing during his career. Mr. Attmore is widely respected both within the state of New York and throughout the country by accounting and auditing professionals.

The award was given during the National State Auditors Association's (NSAA) annual business meeting at a recent annual conference.

The William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award is given each year to recognize auditing industry excellence and to encourage increased interest, growth, development and leadership in the field of state government auditing. "The William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award represents the highest honor the National State Auditors Association can give someone in government auditing. This year's winner, Bob Attmore, is certainly a clear and deserving winner for his many accomplishments and contributions," explained Tom Wagner, Auditor of Accounts in Delaware and one of those instrumental in forming the award.

As Deputy State Comptroller, Mr. Attmore directs a division comprised of approximately 527 staff in two major groups. Because of his integrity, reliability and leadership, he has served both Democratic and Republican administrations in the State Comptroller's Office. In addition, Mr. Attmore continually uses his leadership position within the State Comptroller's Office to make significant changes and to motivate and inspire creative thinking among his staff members as they prepare for the challenges of working in a rapidly changing government environment.

Mr. Attmore's outstanding leadership ability is evident by the recognition he has received from his peers throughout his career. For example, Mr. Attmore has received the Association of Government Accountants' Distinguished State Government Leadership Award, the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers' President's Award, and the United States Department of Agriculture Graduate School Director's Award for Distinguished Board Service.
