Nancy K. Kopp


2016 Hall of Fame Inductee

Elected in 2002, and re-elected to four consecutive terms, Nancy K. Kopp is only the second woman ever to serve as the state treasurer of Maryland, and is the only woman serving in a Constitutional office in the state.
 
Before this she was an elected representative in the Maryland House of Delegates for 27 years. She chaired and served on numerous committees, working to make a real difference in the lives of citizens in her state in the areas of education, finance, and other fiscal matters. She was named by her colleagues as the most effective woman legislator and as one of the 10 Most Effective Members of the House.
 
Kopp was appointed by President Clinton to the National Assessment Governing Board, which oversees the National Assessment of Educational Progress. She was vice chair of the National Commission on State and Local Budget and Finance Procedures, and in 2013, she was appointed to the Financial Accounting Foundation Board as a government trustee. She is a past president of NASACT .
 
She has been recognized with numerous awards over the years, and is a two-time winner of the NASACT President’s Award. She also received a NASACT Special Recognition Award in 2012 for her leadership in representing the Association’s views on the municipal bond market and the improvement of financial disclosure.
 
Kopp’s legacy as a manager, a legislator and a thought leader has left lasting impressions throughout her career, and today she continues seeking to improve government and financial disclosure at every step.
 


The NASACT Community

NASACT serves as the premier organization working to bring together state auditors, state comptrollers and state treasurers to cooperatively address government financial management issues. NASACT also manages two secretariats - the National State Auditors Association (NSAA) and the National Association of State Comptrollers (NASC). Both NSAA and NASC are included under the umbrella of NASACT’s budget and utilize staff hired by NASACT.
